Curriculum Outcomes and Overall Objectives
On completion of the fifth year the graduating student must be competent to facilitate the delivery of patient care in the hospital setting.
We consider that the following components are essential in order to achieve this aim.
- Knowledge and understanding of health education and of disease, its prevention and management, in the context of the individual and society.
- Understanding and the ability to implement the evidence based approach to the management of health and disease.
- Competence in clinical skills including the ability to communicate with the patient and the healthcare team, to perform a thorough clinical assessment of the overall physical condition of the patient and an accurate interpretation of the signs and symptoms elicited, to carry out the most appropriate treatment procedures for each patient having regard for patient needs, wishes and economic circumstances.
- Attitudes consistent with the achievement of high standards of medical care for patients, satisfactory self-development and the ability to work as a member of a healthcare team.
