Aims
- To present a scientific basis for the study of all aspects of Sports and Exercise Medicine;
- To outline a comprehensive programme for injury assessment, treatment and rehabilitation;
- To define guidelines for the scientific monitoring and training of athletes;
- To enable participants to provide training advice for various age groups;
- To expose participants to a wide range of specialties relevant to sport and exercise medicine;
- To develop research techniques applicable to sports and exercise medicine.
A Master of Science degree in Sports and Exercise Medicine is awarded following the passing of written, oral and clinical examinations and the acceptance of a dissertation based on practical research work. [The course is accredited equivalence to FSEM Diploma in Sport and Exercise Medicine United Kingdom and Ireland by the Intercollegiate Faculty of Sport and Exercise Medicine – although this is not recognised for progression in Specialty Training in the UK.] Marks are allocated on the basis of 67% continuous assessment and end of year written examinations and 33% dissertation.
